Liverpool and Norwich City will open the
2019/20 English Premier League season when they meet at Anfield on Friday 9 August, kick-off at 21:00.
Liverpool very nearly won last season’s top-flight title, amassing an amazing 97 points, only to be pipped to first place by Manchester City (98 points). Yet they went on to win the UEFA Champions League, a fine reward for a great campaign overall.
This season manager Jurgen Klopp will hope to see his side end on top of the Premier League table and end a three-decade wait for a domestic championship.

However, the Reds will start the season somewhat on the back foot, with several key players (such as Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Alisson and Roberto Firmino) having only just returned from international commitments, while their pre-season form was unimpressive.
Norwich have returned to the Premier League following a great Championship campaign in 2018/19, in which they finished ahead of Sheffield United and Leeds United to secure direct promotion.
Manager Daniel Farke has groomed a well-rounded team, but the step up from the second tier to the Premier League is a steep one – something they may find out in this Friday night clash.
