22-25 January 2025
Jason Day will be keen to become the third golfer to win the
Farmers Insurance Open three or more times after Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
What to know about Day
The Australian star had early success as a professional, earning a PGA Tour membership in his teens and winning an event in his third season, the HP Byron Nelson Championship in 2010.
To date, Day has won 19 professional tournaments including 13 PGA Tour events and in 2015, Day recorded his breakout season, winning five events including the PGA Championship, a major championship.
News
The 37-year-old was in action at the most recent event in the 2025 PGA Tour schedule which was The American Express in Carlifonia where Day secured a top-three finish - finishing third.
Day is currently placed 33rd in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and he achieved the number one ranking in 2015.
Why Day is among the favourites
The experienced golfer is a two-time winner of the Farmers Insurance Open having won it for the first time in 2015 with a score of 279 (−9) after prevailing in a four-way playoff over Harris English, J. B. Holmes and Scott Stallings.
In 2018, Day won the tournament for a second time, for his 11th PGA Tour win and first in over eighteen months as he defeated Alex Norén and Ryan Palmer in a sudden-death playoff, that lasted six extra holes.
The 2016 Mark H. McCormack Award winner is one of the favourites to win this year's tournament and equal Mickelson's three titles, and also move closer to Woods' record of seven trophies.
Quotes
“I feel like I gave myself a lot of opportunities out there, I’m a good putter, so I just didn’t capitalize on the opportunities. I could tell that something was off when the initial hit of the putts I could hear the putts jumping," Day said after finishing third at 2025 The American Express.
"So when you hear like kind of, it’s not like a skid, it’s like more of a (makes noise) like that, that’s when it’s difficult to control speed. When it’s jumping around a little bit, it’s difficult to get the correct speed, and then obviously when you don’t have the correct speed, then it’s hard to hole the putts.
“I could probably do a better job of painting a better picture before I hit the shot too, just being able to see the putt go in a little bit better.”
