Matchday 13

Brentford v Arsenal

Gtech Community Stadium
London, England
Saturday, 25 November 2023
Kick-off is at 19h30

Arsenal will look to keep the pressure on their title rivals when they go head to head with Brentford in a London derby at the Gtech community Stadium on Saturday, November 25 in the late kick-off.

The Gunners got their title challenge back on track with a 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium, having seen their unbeaten start to the season ended by Newcastle in a 1-0 defeat at St James' Park seven days earlier.

Mikel Arteta's side climbed above fierce North London neighbours Tottenham up to third place, level on 27 points with Liverpool (2nd) and one behind league leaders Manchester City, who were held to a 4-4 draw by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Bees (11th) dropped out of the top 10 following a 3-0 loss to the Reds at Anfield, which halted a a run of three consecutive wins.

West Ham leapfrogged them and the Blues up to ninth spot courtesy of a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium, while Wolves (12th) closed within a point of Thomas Frank's side after pulling off a dramatic 2-1 comeback triumph against Spurs at Molineux.

Neal Maupay is steadily proving to be an astute loan signing for Brentford. The French striker struggled to replicate the form he showed at Brighton when making the switch to Everton in August 2022. But he's starting to make an impact in West London and opened his account against the Hammers after providing assists in each of his previous two games.

Leandro Trossard has made some important contributions for Arsenal this term and impressed in the win over the Clarets last time out. The Belgian winger was only handed his fourth start of the campaign, but featured for 81 minutes and got his name on the scoresheet before setting up William Saliba for the second goal. He is now the club's third-highest scorer in the league with three goals.

Frank was impressed with the performance of his players on Merseyside and felt the only aspect of their game that was missing was not taking their chances.

"Today, in many ways, was a good performance," the Dane said. "I was pleased with so many things. I loved the approach and the mentality of the team - we went to Anfield with an ambition and a belief that we could get something.

"We were brave, we were aggressive, we pressed high, we created chances - we have never created that many chances here at Anfield. We had never given that few away too, of course they had chances, but we still kept them at bay okay here. So, in that way, it was a good performance.

"What lacked was the big moments; we didn't take the big moments today, in our chances and especially in their second and third goal."

Arteta praised his team for showing teeth when they needed to as he got the response he was seeking after the controversial loss to Newcastle seven days earlier.

"The level and the consistency the team is showing, how we are playing, how the team is competing, we are always there," the Spaniard said.

"The team is showing real maturity as well as a lot of hunger to be there and show a bit of bite and teeth in the right moments, and today we've done that really well I think."
