Reigning World Champion Max Verstappen could end the 2023 season with yet another record on his name as he continues to cement his name among the greats of the sport.

Sitting comfortably at the top of the Driver’s Standings, Verstappen has broken numerous records throughout the course of the 2023 campaign.

Now though, Verstappen could claim the record for the percentage of laps led in a single season as Red Bull prepares for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Dutchman is ahead of Jim Clark’s lead lap percentage record currently, having led 75.06& of all laps in 2023. Clark’s record of 71.47% Lead Laps has been held for 60 years, when he managed to complete the feat in 1963 with his Lotus.

Off the back of his victory at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Verstappen is currently on a run of six-consecutive race wins as he hopes to end his championship winning season on a high.

The Red Bull Racing ace will be hoping to emulate his showings from the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he managed to bag a dominant first place finish ahead of Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez.

Nonetheless, Verstappen bemoaned the timing of the upcoming Abu Dhabi race, following the Las Vegas showpiece last week. The Dutch star suggested that a tour of the US take place, while a vast time zone difference could affect the drivers this weekend.

“The timing for sure,” Verstappen said at the post-race press conference, when asked what changes he would make to the Las Vegas GP.
“The other thing for next year maybe that is not possible, but to maybe make it a bit better travelling also to Abu Dhabi, because at the moment it’s such a big time shift that, especially at the end of the season when everyone is already a bit tired, I think it’s a little bit much.
“So maybe it would be ideal to find a different kind of date because I find that maybe we need to do more of an American tour. I know, of course, maybe for ticket sales, I don’t know if that’s ideal.
“So maybe we can find a bit of a solution there. I think the 12 hour time zone shifts and also completely different timings for racing also is… I find that a bit much.”
