Max Verstappen will be hoping to make history by becoming the first Red Bull Racing-RBPT driver to win the Australian Grand Prix.

The Dutch superstar finished third in the last Australian Grand Prix which was staged three years ago as he finished behind the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.

Prior to the race, Red Bull had not finished on the podium in Australia in the current engine era, but Verstappen secured a third spot finish as a 21-year-old driver.

Verstappen started his defence of the Formula One world title by finishing 19th at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20 with Red Bull cars having suffered a mechanical issue during the race.

The former Toro Rosso driver then won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on March 27 as Verstappen held off Charles Leclerc of Ferrari to win in Jeddah.

Verstappen is sitting in the third spot on the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings and the three-time FIA Action of the Year has good memories of the Australian Grand Prix.

At the 2015 Australian Grand Prix, when he was aged 17 years, 166 days, Verstappen became the youngest driver to compete in Formula One and he is now hoping to win the race.

"Last weekend (Bahrain) was a tough one for all of us to take. It was disappointing. You always say to yourself, and to the team as well, that we have to score points," Verstappen said after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

"It doesn't matter if it is first or second in the first race weekend. You could see that. In turn one, I didn't risk too much in the fight with Charles. It was all clean and I was like 'I'm happy with second here',

"But to lose so many points was very disappointing. "You know in a championship where sometimes it can be very tight, at the end, these are very important points."

Ferrari (78 points) are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Mercedes (38 points) and Red Bull Racing-RBPT (37 points) respectively.
