Aleix Espargaro will be looking to regain his old form when he takes part in the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Ducati rider endured a disappointing race in last season's Austrian Grand Prix as he finished 10th having started eighth on the grid.

Espargaro finished ninth in the most recent race in the current campaign which was the British MotoGP on August 7.

The 2004 FIM CEV International Championship winner of the Spanish 125GP series has failed to secure a podium spot in the last four races this term.

Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati won the British MotoGP with Aprilia rider Maverick Viñales and Jack Miller of Ducati finishing second and third respectively.

Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo is still at the top of the 2022 riders' standings with Bagnaia placed third on the table.

Espargaro is placed second in the standings and he will climb to the top of the table if he wins the Austrian MotoGP and Quartarao fails to record points.

“When I was lying on the tarmac yes (finishing ninth) because I felt a lot of pain with my feet and was struggling with energy," Espargaro said after British MotoGP.

"But it’s fair to say I improved quite a lot during the night because the doctors on Saturday did a really good job. The pain was not an excuse for ninth place, obviously, I couldn’t ride comfortably and couldn’t ride freely on the bike.

"I was losing a lot of time at the corner I crashed yesterday but overall I’m satisfied because I didn’t really lose anything in the championship fight."

Ducati are placed at the top of the Constructors' championship standings and they are followed by Yamaha and Aprilia respectively.
