2023 FIFA Women's World Cup
Quarter-Finals
Australia & New Zealand
11-12 August
The underdogs Colombia, Spain and Australia will be keen to stun their much-fancied opponents in the 2023
FIFA Women's World Cup quarter-finals.
Quarter-Final Line-Up
Colombia, who are making their maiden appearance in the quarter-finals, will take on reigning European champions England on August 12.
While Australia will be hoping to reach the semi-finals for the first time by securing a win over the 2011 World Cup semi-finalists France on August 12.
Spain, on the other hand, are making their first appearance in the quarter-finals and they will be up against 2019 World Cup runners-up Netherlands on August 11.
An encounter between Japan and Sweden on August 11 is expected to be tightly contested as they are among the best women's teams in the world.
Semi-Final Line-Up
The winner between the Netherlands and Spain will face off with either Japan or Sweden in a semi-final clash on August 15.
While the winner between Colombia and England is scheduled to take on either Australia or France on August 16.
What was said?
England will be without one of their key players when they face Colombia. Lauren James was left off for stepping on rival Michelle Alozie in a Round of 16 clash against Nigeria.
"It was a moment of a split second. It was later in the game so players get tired. She’s inexperienced on this stage and had done well but she lost her emotions," England manager Sarina Wiegman said.
"She doesn’t want to hurt anyone. She’s the sweetest person I know. Things happen like that and you can’t change it anymore. It’s a huge lesson to learn but it’s not something she really did on purpose. I’ve spoken to her.
"I just said, ‘That happens sometimes with human beings’. You’re in such an intense game, such an emotional game and in a split second she lost her emotions. Of course, she apologised and feels really, really bad. She doesn’t want to hurt anyone."
