Adam Scott will continue his hunt for lifetime exemption on the
PGA Tour at the WGC-Mexico / WGC-Workday Championship when the 2021 edition is held at The Concession Golf Course in Bradenton, Florida from 25 to 28 February.
Originally scheduled for Mexico, this tournament has been moved and re-branded for 2021 due to logistical difficulties created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Scott boasts 14 PGA Tour career wins and is targeting the magical number of 20 – the mark earns a player a lifetime exemption on the tour, with two players currently active in that category: Davis Love III (21 wins) and Vijay Singh (34). Tiger Woods (82) and Phil Mickelson (44) are eligible but have status otherwise.
“I just had 20 [PGA Tour victories] in my head,” Scott said. That was a mark I'd like to do quickly so I can take advantage of that lifetime membership because I'm getting a bit older.
“I'm very confident that I've got quite a few wins left in me, but also I'm aware I'd like to do that at a pretty quick fashion.”
The 40-year-old is a former champion at this event, winning it in 2016 (when it was still the WGC-Cadillac Championship) by shooting a tournament 276 to beat Bubba Watson by one stroke.
Scott was also runner-up in 2006 (when it was known as the WGC-American Express Championship) behind Tiger Woods (who won the fifth of his record seven titles that year), while the only other Australian to triumph at this event was Geoff Ogilvy in 2008.
