As the second round of the
FAZ/MTN Super League kicked off last Friday and concluding on Sunday, December 31
st Zesco United showcased their prowess by extending their lead at the top of the log.
Zesco United's outstanding performance has seen them amass an impressive 36 points giving them a four-point advantage over their closest competitors, Red Arrows who currently sit in second place with 32 points.
In a thrilling encounter at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday, the Ndola outfit secured a crucial 1-0 victory over NAPSA Stars to cement their position at the summit of the league.
Red Arrows FC, determined to challenge Zesco United for the top spot, clinched a victory against Nkana FC at Nkoloma Stadium. Paul Katema's third-minute goal proved decisive and propelled them second place. Meanwhile, Zanaco FC and FC MUZA played out to a goalless draw in an early kick-off at the same venue.
Despite a win for Kansanshi Dynamos against struggling Trident FC, they find themselves precariously close to the relegation zone with only a point separating them.
Nkana and NAPSA Stars currently find themselves in the relegation zone adding intensity to the battle at the lower end of the table.
The defending champions, Power Dynamos secured a 1-0 victory over Forest Rangers placing them in fourth position as they continue their pursuit of retaining the title.
With only one game into the second round of the 2023/24 season, the race for the top spot remains highly competitive. The uncertainty of the eventual winner and teams facing relegation looms large due to the inconsistent performances displayed by many teams throughout the season.
