The Vice Captain of the Zambia Women’s National Football Team, Grace Chanda, is returning to the squad. She has been selected in the 34-player provisional squad for the
Olympic Qualifiers match against Morocco.
Chanda, who plays as a striker, has been away from football since the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due to illness. Despite being unable to participate in the tournament, she has returned to training with her club, Madrid CFF, after nine months of illness. This marks her first-time training with the Copper Queens since her last match against Switzerland on June 30, 2023.
Chanda previously led the Copper Queens at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, where Zambia secured Bronze and qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time. She emerged as the top scorer for Zambia during that tournament.
The team is scheduled to enter camp in late March, preparing for the first leg of the final round match against Morocco on April 5th in Ndola at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, followed by the second leg on April 9th.
The winner between Zambia and Morocco will secure a spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining USA, Germany, and Australia in Group B. If Zambia qualifies, it will mark their second appearance at the Olympics. Additionally, Africa will have two representatives at the Olympics, with the winner between Nigeria and South Africa also securing qualification.
