Arsenal FC have had many great players since the inception of the English Premier League in 1992.
 
We selected the Gunners' 20-man ultimate squad.
 

GOALKEEPERS

 

David Seaman

 
He was definitely one of England's greatest goalkeepers during his period as Arsenal and England goalkeeper in the 1990s and early 2000s.
 
Seaman won three league championships (1991, 1998, 2002), four FA Cups (1993, 1998, 2002, 2003), the League Cup in 1993 and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1994 with Arsenal.
 
He was a tall, well–rounded keeper, with a large frame and was known for his bravery, quick reflexes, agility and excellent positional sense.

"I think it's the best save I've ever seen. So very often you get a touch on the ball and it ends up in the net anyway," Peter Schmeichel said on BBC after Seaman played the 1000th game of his senior career against Sheffield United in April 2003.

"It was just unbelievable. He was off balance, had to come back and get a touch to it. He must have shovels on his hands. It was incredible. I'm so happy for him. He's come back from injury and been criticised a bit - most of all for his age."
 

Jens Lehmann


The German legend was a member of Arsenal's 'Invincibles', playing every match of their unbeaten title-winning season in 2003/04.
 
Lehmann also holds the UEFA Champions League record for the most consecutive clean sheets, not conceding a single goal in 10 consecutive matches while he played for Arsenal.
 
He was known for his agility, reflexes, strength and acrobatic shot-stopping abilities, but he was also known for his efficiency rather than spectacular playing style.
 

CENTRAL DEFENDERS

 

Sol Campell

 
The English legend had a 20-year career playing in the Premier League and was an influential defender during his time with Arsenal.
 
Campbell, who made 195 appearances for Arsenal, won two Premier League winners medals and two FA Cup winners medals, encompassing the 2001/02 league and FA Cup double.
 
He was a strong, athletic and imposing defender with a good positional sense and was a strong tackler.
 

Tony Adams

 
The legendary English defender is considered one of the best Arsenal players of all time by the club's own fans having played for the team between 1983 and 2002.
 
Adams won four top-flight division titles, uniquely captaining a title-winning team in three different decades, three FA Cups, two Football League Cups, a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and two FA Community Shields.
 
He was a brave, rugged and committed defender. His main traits were his leadership, aerial prowess and his ability to read the game.
 

Kolo Toure

 
The former Ivory Coast captain moved to Arsenal in 2002, where he made 326 appearances for the club and was a member of the 2003/04 'invincibles' side.
 
Toure is one of the eight players, who have won the Premier League with two clubs, having won it with Manchester City and Arsenal.
 
He was a large, physically imposing and intimidating defensive presence. He was also known for his strength in the air, tenacity and the ability to time his challenges well.
 

RIGHT-BACKS 

 

Lauren

 
The former Cameroon international is another member of Arsenal's invincibles side which dominated English football.
 
Lauren made his 150th appearance for Arsenal during the record-breaking run in 2004 and won the Premier League title, giving Lauren his second League winners' medal.
 
He was an aggressive, tenacious and hard-tackling player who was known for his work-rate, determination and consistency as a right-back. 
 

Lee Dixon

 
The Manchester-born legend was a defensive mainstay in a successful Arsenal team until his retirement in 2002 having joined the club in 1988.
 
Dixon collected four league championship medals, three FA Cup winner's medals and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup medal during his time with the Gunners.
 
He was known as a tough-tackling right-back with good passing skills, quick pace, agility and a strong shot.
 

LEFT-BACKS

 

Ashley Cole

 
The English left-back began his youth career at Arsenal and went on to make 228 appearances, scoring nine goals for the North London club.
 
Cole won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and was an integral member of the "Invincibles" team of the 2003/04 season.
 
Although Cole was an attack-minded full-back, he was also renowned for making timed goal-line clearances and cutting out the danger.
 

Nigel Winterburn

 
The English legend is best known for his role alongside the likes of Tony Adams, Lee Dixon and others, who formed a celebrated defensive line for Arsenal in the Premier League.
 
Winterburn made 429 League appearances and scored eight goals for Arsenal, and helped the club clinch the Premier League title, two FA Cups and European Cup Winners' Cup.
 
He was blessed with speed, good decision-making and was also technically gifted. 
 

CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS

 

Patrick Vieira

 
The French legend established himself as a dominating box-to-box midfielder during his nine-year stint in the Premier League with Arsenal.
 
Vieira helped Arsenal achieve a sustained period of success during his time at the club, where he lifted three FA Cups and three league titles, including one unbeaten season.
 
He was known for his aggressive and highly competitive style of play, an attitude that also helped him excel as captain of the club from 2002 until 2005.
 

Cesc Fabregas

 
The Spanish central midfielder broke several of Arsenal's records during his time with the club - earning a reputation as one of the best players in his position.
 
Fabregas helped the Gunners clinch the FA Cup and FA Community Shield. He got to captain the team between 2008 and 2011.
 
He excelled as a playmaker and he is renowned for his passing range. He was described as the general of Arsenal's first team after being promoted from the club's academy.
 

Gilberto Silva

 
The former Brazil international had a six-year spell with Arsenal which was successful as he won trophies with the London giants.
 
Gilberto also holds distinct records at Arsenal, recording their first goal at the Emirates Stadium, as well as their fastest ever goal. He won the league title and two FA Cups.
 
He excelled in breaking up opposition attacks before they gathered momentum and was a great passer of the ball as a defensive midfielder.
 

RIGHT MIDFIELDERS

 

Freddie Ljungberg

 
The former Sweden captain was an influential player during his days with Arsenal between 1998 and 2007.
 
Ljungberg spent most of his career at Arsenal, where he won honours including two Premier League titles and three FA Cups, scoring in two finals including the victory in 2002.
 
He boasted qualities of speed, skill and judgment as a winger.
 
He is currently the assistant coach of Arsenal.
 

Alexis Sanchez

 
The Chilean superstar transferred to Arsenal, where he quickly established himself as the figurehead of the team between 2014 and 2018.
 
Sanchez played an instrumental role in helping the Gunners clinch the FA Community Shield, as well as the FA Cup on two occasions, and scored in both finals.
 
He was a quick, creative and hard-working player with an eye for goal, who is known in particular for his energy, skill and work-rate on the pitch.

LEFT MIDFIELDERS

 

Robert Pires

 
The legendary French winger was voted by Arsenal fans as the sixth-best player in the club's history having enjoyed a lot of success with the club.
 
Pires won two FA Cups and two Premier League titles, including featuring in the club's unbeaten season (2003/04). He was included in the PFA Team of the Year for the 2001/02, 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons.
 
He played the majority of his career as a left-winger, but could also play all across the midfield or in a position to support the forward line.
 

Marc Overmars

 
The retired Dutch attacker played as a winger and was renowned for his speed and technical skills which he displayed during his spell with Arsenal.
 
Overmars was a focal point of Arsenal's league and cup double success, and was voted as the 12th-greatest player in Arsenal's history by the club's supporters in 2008.
 
He was described as "the archetypal winger" who had speed, vision, two-footedness and dribbling ability.
 
"He was a good dribbler who could beat people one-on-one and that was important for a winger in our system. But he also had a very good assist record and he could score goals," Louis van Gaal on Overmars, June 2004.
 

STRIKERS

 

Ian Wright

 
The legendary English striker enjoyed success with Arsenal as a forward, spending seven years with the Gunners.
 
Wright lifted the Premier League title with the Gunners, and both the major domestic cup competitions including the European Cup Winners Cup.
 
Known for his speed and goalscoring ability, Wright played 288 competitive games for the London giants and hit the back of the net 185 times.
 

Dennis Bergkamp

 
The Dutch and Arsenal legend is widely regarded as one of the best players of his generation having scored many amazing goals.
 
Bergkamp helped the Gunners win three Premier League titles, four FA Cup trophies and reach the 2006 UEFA Champions League final.
 
He was a quick, elegant, intelligent, and gifted player who was regarded as one of the most technically accomplished players of all time.
 

Thierry Henry

 
The French football icon is considered by many as the best player in the history of the Premier League having played for Arsenal in the competition.
 
Henry is Arsenal's all-time leading scorer with 228 goals in all competitions and has won the Premier League Golden Boot a record four times, won two FA Cups and two Premier League titles with the club.
 
He had the ability to dribble past opponents with exceptional pace, skill and composure which saw him score many goals for the club.
