2021/22 English Premier League

Matchday 36

Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur

Anfield
Liverpool, England
Saturday, 7 May 2022
Kick-off is at 20h45

Liverpool will look to keep the pressure on title rivals Manchester City when Tottenham visit Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday, May 7.

The Reds briefly claimed top spot when they beat Newcastle 1-0 at St James' Park last Saturday before City returned to the summit with a 4-0 victory over Leeds later in the day.

Jurgen Klopp's side trail the Citizens by a single point with four games remaining in the season and the EFL Cup champions are still in with a shot of recording a quadruple.

The Merseysiders will contest the FA Cup final against Chelsea and they have a 2-0 advantage over Villarreal going into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie.

Klopp admits there is an air of excitement around the club at the moment, but knows just one slip-up could bring it all crashing down.

"We are excited, I love this football team and we go into the next (game) and try to be as good as somehow possible, but that's it pretty much," the German said.

"It's a good situation, but for us the number of games we still have to play is a lot; with or without the Champions League final it's a lot, so we better win everything because otherwise it could be tricky."

Spurs are locked in a battle with arch-rivals Arsenal for fourth place, with just two points separating the north London neighbours.

Antonio Conte's team occupied the final Champions League spot for a couple of hours after claiming a 3-1 victory over Leicester on Sunday, only for the Gunners to climb above them again with a 2-1 success against West Ham.

Conte acknowledged that every game is like a cup final for them as anything less than a win will hamper their chances of finishing in the top four.

"To win, for us, was important because we continue to stay in the race for the Champions League," the Italian said. "We have to continue in this way. It's important that every player continues to give 150 per cent - 100 per cent is not enough in this moment.

"Four games to go, next game against Liverpool, maybe someone can think that we have to get points in other games, but I think we have to prepare for this game and to go there and try to get points. For us, every game is vital."
