2019/20 UEFA Champions League
Group stage, Matchday 2
1-2 October 2019
Liverpool will look to bounce back from an opening defeat in Group E of the UEFA Champions League when they host Salzburg at Anfield on Wednesday 2 October 2019, kick-off at 21:00.
The match is one of 16 Matchday 2 fixtures in the group stage of the competition, spread across 1-2 October.
Liverpool got their group stage campaign – and the defence of their Champions League title – off to a disappointing start when they were beaten 2-0 at Napoli. Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente scored for the Neapolitans.
Salzburg, meanwhile, enjoyed a roaring opening to Group E as they thrashed Genk 6-2 in Austria. The star man was 19-year-old striker Erling Haaland, who became the first teenager to score a hat-trick on Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney in 2004.
In head-to-head terms, this will be the first meeting of Liverpool and Salzburg in official European club competitions. The Reds have won four of their previous six matches against Austrian opponents, while Salzburg have lost both of the their two previous games against English clubs.
