The seven-time MotoGP world champion remains hopeful of winning this season's championship despite being 26 points behind the leader Dovizioso.
"Today I lost some points but it doesn't change a lot. I mean we are a lot of riders in a small difference of points and the championship is still very open, very long," Rossi said.
"Everything can happen. But we need to be stronger, to go faster and during this weekend we tried something to improve
"But at the end during the race I don't feel very well with the bike. I don't have a lot of grip… we need to be faster."
Yamaha are sitting at the top of Manufacturers' Championship standings with 138 points.
Ducati and KTM are placed second and third with 115 and 104 points respectively on the standings.
