Euro 2020 is the 60
th edition of one of the most prestigious
football tournaments on the planet. It is a skills-based showdown between the best players and the proudest footballing nations in Europe… and it only happens once in every four years!
It is a month-long nail-biting competition featuring 24 teams and thousands of fans who will raise the roof at 12 venues across the UK and the continent.
This is where celebrity players like Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann, Spanish defender Sergio Ramos and England’s two Harrys – Harry Kane and Harry Maguire – are given the license to dazzle.
At this point, the final draw has taken place, the qualifying teams have been allocated to the respective groups and the business end of the play-offs are about to commence.

Euro 2020 Host Cities
In celebration of the tournament’s sixty years of football-infused triumph, the organisers have tossed convention into the bin. Instead of only one host nation, Euro 2020 will spread its good cheer and awesome entertainment to 12 host nations.
If you live in London, Saint Petersburg, Baku, Munich, Rome or Amsterdam, the biggest football show on earth is coming to you. It is also expanding into Bilbao, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin and Glasgow!
How Do the Teams Qualify for Euro 2020?
Unlike the UEFA Europa and Champions League where the best clubs in the domestic leagues automatically qualify for the big time, all 55 UEFA national teams have to play for their spot in the Euro 2020 finals tournament.
Over the qualifying tournament the numbers were whittled down to the 20 teams that finished first and second in their respective groups. These are the teams that are now ensconced into Groups A to F above.
The four remaining spots are still up for contention in the playoffs and feature teams that did not qualify for the Euro finals – in other words the 35 teams that did not make the cut the first time around!
What are the Euro 2020 Dates to Diarise?
Apart from the opener in Rome on 12 June 2020, the major dates are:
- 3 and 4 July 2020 – the quarter finals in Munich, Saint Petersburg, Rome and Baku.
- 7 and 8 July 2020 – the semi-finals in London
- 12 July 2020 – the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium
What Else is New at Euro 2020?
Besides the multiple venues Euro 2020 will feature the much-maligned VAR (video assistant referee) system for the first time. That of course means celebrations on the pitch won’t be nearly as impulsive or entertaining!
Where will you be when the long-awaited opener of Euro 2020 kicks-off between Italy and Turkey at the Stadio Olimpic? In the stand yelling for one of the respective teams? Or cosying up to your TV in Zambia?
