The Rossoneri made it seven wins from nine matches to start the Serie A season -- while stretching their unbeaten run to 21 matches -- with a 2-0 win over Fiorentina.

Milan head into matchday 10 five points clear atop the league standings. Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessie were on target for Milan at the San Siro last time out in a match in which Daniele Bonera occupied the hot-seat once again.

Not only were Milan without Serie A top scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to a muscle injury, but head coach Stefano Pioli and assistant Giacomo Murelli were also absent as they were recovering from Covid-19.

“I see another small piece to put into this great puzzle that started some time ago," Bonera said in the aftermath. "We knew we would have difficulties but we acted and reacted like a great team, which we are.

“It’s a healthy group with values. We made the video call in the locker room. The Coach is in fact always with us at Milanello."

Sampdoria are on a contrasting run of form and head into this weekend's tie on a four-game winless run in Serie A after being held to a 2-2 draw away to Torino in their most recent outing. As a result the Blucerchiati head into Sunday's tie in 11th spot having accumulated 11 points from nine matches.

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 4-1 win for the visitors. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (two), Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Rafael Leão were on target for Milan at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.
