Atalanta v Torino

‪2021-22 Serie A, Matchday 20

Thursday 6 January 2022

Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo

Kick-off at 17:30

Atalanta will look for a fast start in the New Year when they host Torino for a Serie A clash at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on the afternoon of Thursday 6 January 2022, kick-off at 17:30.

Atalanta stumbled in their final games of 2021, losing 4-1 at home to Roma before a 0-0 draw away to Genoa on December 21. La Dea find themselves in fourth place, eight points off the pace set by log leaders Internazionale.

“I am glad that we have 38 points at the midway stage, a record for my time with Atalanta,” coach Gian Piero Gasperini explained. “On the other hand, I have regrets because we only brought home one point from the last two games, but on a global scale looking at the campaign, we can be satisfied.”

Torino, meanwhile, are 11th on the log – five places and seven points off the European berths. Il Toro ended 2021 with a 1-0 loss to Internazionale on December 22, but prior to that they had put together a four-game unbeaten run which included wins over Bologna and Verona.

“We made a summary of the team, of things, trying to understand where we can improve. There are many things that are going well, other things that can be done better. My team is complex to understand well, we have to do things right without damage,” said Torino coach Ivan Juric.

“We’re lacking a bit of speed, maybe looking for someone, if there’s a possibility from the market, yes, I’d like to raise the quality a bit. To win against the big teams we need quality.”

In head-to-head stats, Atalanta and Torino have met in 41 matches across all competitions since 1993, with La Dea claiming 16 wins compared to 13 for Il Toro, while 12 games have been drawn.

When the teams met in the league earlier this season, in Turin in August 2021, Atalanta claimed a 2-1 away win thanks to goals from Luis Muriel and Roberto Piccoli.
