In recent football history there has been numerous managerial rivalries in Europe's top leagues which has subsequently added to the narrative and hype built around some of the biggest games in the world.
While much of the talking is done on the pitch, some of the manager's involved in the rivalries listed below, did a lot of their talking in the press room - constantly adding fuel to the fire.
Betway takes a look at five of the fiercest managerial rivalries over the last two decades which not only shaped dynasties but on occasion boiled over on the touchline:
Jose Mourinho vs Rafael Benitez
Both managers arrived in the English Premier League ahead of the 2004-05 season following successful spells at Porto and Valencia respectively.
Over the course of the next few seasons they'd become regular adversaries as Chelsea and Liverpool went head-to-head for trophies in England and on the continent. While Mourinho's Blues reigned superior in the league, Benitez's Liverpool would come up trumps in both their 2005 and 2007 UEFA Champions League semifinal meetings.
Their rivalry would extend past the four corners of the football pitch and turned personal on several occasions over the years with Mourinho notably mocking the Spanish mentor's weight.

Jurgen Klopp vs Pep Guardiola
The duo would first come to blows in the German Bundesliga where Guardiola's all-conquering Bayern Munich would win the league title in Klopp's final two seasons at Borussia Dortmund.
Their rivalry would be re-ignited on Guardiola's arrival in the English Premier League and while he continued to dominate winning back-to-back league crowns, Liverpool are on the cusp of a first top division title in three decades.
Klopp has also enjoyed more success in the UEFA Champions League meetings between the two with Liverpool beating City on their way to the final in 2017-18 before clinching the continental crown with victory over Tottenham Hotspur a year later.

Pep Guardiola vs Jose Mourinho
Arguably the most famous of the managerial rivalries on this list in recent history, Guardiola and Mourinho worked together at FC Barcelona.
Their friendly relationship deteriorated while on opposing benches: starting with Mourinho's time at Inter where his team knocked Guardiola's Barcelona out of the UEFA Champions League on their way to the 2010 crown. Fuel would be added to their managerial rivalry on Mourinho's return to the Spanish LaLiga with Real Madrid where a string of high octane El Clasico meetings soured their relationship beyond repair.
Guardiola enjoyed the majority of success during their meetings in Spain while his Manchester City team was superior over that of Mourinho's Manchester United side. In their most recent meeting the Portuguese mentor, who took over the reins at Tottenham Hotspur last year, came out on top as his Spurs team claimed a 2-0 victory over City in February this year.

Jose Mourinho vs Arsene Wenger
No manager got under Wenger's skin as much as Mourinho did in what is the most one-sided rivalry on our list.
Their rivalry stretched well beyond the confines of the touchline with countless jabs in pressers while on one occasion it all even got a bit physical with Wenger famously shoving his opposite number during a heated battle at Stamford Bridge. Mourinho famously told reporters that the Frenchman was a "specialist in failure" in 2014 in arguably the most famous war of words between the two polarising figures.
On the field, Mourinho's teams dominated that of Wenger's with the Portuguese mentor winning back-to-back titles in his first two seasons at Chelsea having taken over the Premier League mantle from Wenger's Invincibles.

Sir Alex Ferguson vs Arsene Wenger
The longest running rivalry of the lot, Ferguson and Wenger were adversaries for much of the Premier League era.
Between 1996 and 2004, either Arsenal or Manchester United won the league title so it is only natural that a rivalry originated and by the time the two managerial greats called it a day they'd won 16 Premier League titles between them.
While Wenger's Arsenal won the 2001-02 league title at Old Trafford, the 2005 FA Cup final against the Red Devils and enjoyed the famous Invincibles season in 2003-04, there is no doubt that Ferguson won the war with his United truly establishing themselves as England's greatest team and he himself as the greatest manager with an incredible 13 Premier League titles.
The two are the epitome of what managerial rivalries are all about and while they enjoy an amicable relationship in their retirement, fans will never forget their touchline feuds during 'Fergie Time'.
