The Wizards are working hard to get themselves into Playoff contention in the Eastern Conferences, having had a season in which they are hovering around the .500 mark. Their frustrations were encapsulated by a last-gasp 114-111 home defeat to the Houston Rockets last week.

"Our overall approach was, I thought, a little lackadaisical," said Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. "You're fighting human nature? I don't know. But we cannot look at anyone's record or how many games they've lost in a row... whatever that may be. We're in no position to do that."
The Trail Blazers, meanwhile, have fared even worse in the Western Conference and will need some kind of revival if they are to see their 2021-22 campaign extend beyond the Regular Season. Summing up their difficulties was a 115-109 loss at home to the Miami Heat last week.

"Max [Strus] got hot and was hitting some tough threes, hit a bank-shot three. Those plays are deflating, especially when you're working so hard to get stops," said Norman Powell, who finished with 26 points for Portland in the defeat.
In head-to-head stats, the Wizards and the Trail Blazers have met in 117 Regular Season games since 1970-71, with Portland claiming 61 wins compared to 56 for Washington. The teams’ last Regular Season meeting was in February 2021, with the Wizards winning 118-111 away thanks to 37 points from Bradley Beal.
