2021-22 Premier League season
13 August 2021 – 22 May 2022
Nuno Espirito Santo will hope to lead Tottenham Hotspur into a promising new chapter of their history when he leads the team in the upcoming
2021-22 Premier League season, running from 13 August of this year to 22 May of the next.
Espirito Santo was recently confirmed as Spurs’ new permanent manager, replacing Jose Mourinho after his toxic spell in North London came to an end in April (with a caretaker spell from Ryan Mason in between).

“When you have a squad with quality and talent, we want to make the fans proud and enjoy,” said the Portuguese tactician, who left Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season and has signed a two-year deal with Tottenham.
“It’s an enormous pleasure and honour (to be here), there’s joy and I’m happy and looking forward to starting work. We don’t have any days to lose and we must start working immediately as pre-season starts in a few days.”
Espirito Santo faces some tough obstacles, especially with Tottenham fans sceptical that he will not bring a more attacking approach compared to the defensive football they played under Mourinho. However, the 47-year-old is not inherently a conservative coach, but more a pragmatic one, and making best use of Tottenham’s attacking talent will surely be on his ‘to do’ list.

The fixture list has not been kind, though, with Spurs facing champions Manchester City in their opening match, before an away trip to Nuno’s former team Wolves (who will be fired up for that clash at Molineux Stadium) before playing Chelsea and Arsenal competitively within their first six league fixtures. On top of that, Tottenham will also have to balance the demands of the inaugural Europa Conference League.
Convincing Harry Kane (who has expressed a desire to leave the club) to stay on board – or at the very least signing an able replacement, such as Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina – will be a key step before the season gets underway, but ultimately it is Espirito Santo’s ability to get his team well-drilled and tactically flexible that will determine whether he is a success at Tottenham.
