Els out to emulate Woods at Open Championship

Ernie Els will be hoping to emulate Tiger Woods by winning the Open Championship having already won the competition in the past. 
 
Woods is a three-time winner of the Open Championship having lifted the trophy in 2000, 2005 and 2006 as the best golfer in the world at the time.
 
While Els has won this tournament twice in his illustrious career and he will be eager to emulate Woods by winning this third title year's event.

The South African star, who was born in Johannesburg, is an accomplished golfer - boasting 70 career victories including four major championships.
 
Els won the US Open in 1994 at Oakmont and in 1997 at Congressional, and The Open Championship in 2002 at Muirfield and in 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
 
The 52-year-old, who once held the number one spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, is one of six golfers to twice win both the US Open and Open Championship.
 
In 2013, Elis won the BMW International Open and it remains his last win as a professional golfer, and he will be determined to his trophy drought at this year's Open Championship.

“Just to have the career I’ve had, to be honest," Els said recently as he reflected on his successful career.
 
"To have a long career, you’ve gotta do a lot of things right, a lot of things have to go your way
 
“Injuries, touch wood, haven’t been too bad for me. Nothing catastrophic. And then just to have the love of the game for this long time," he continued. 
 
"There’s a lot of other things we can do in life. But to keep the love of the game to where I want to still compete and so forth. I’m 52, 53 this year in October."
 
Harry Vardon is the most decorated golfer in the history of the Open Championship having won it a record six times.
