Trey Mullinax will be looking to secure his second win of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season by clinching the
Rocket Mortgage Classic.
The American golfer has enjoyed his breakthrough season on the PGA Tour having turned professional in 2014 and he will be one of the underdogs in Detroit.
Mullinax recorded his first PGA title earlier this month as he clinched the 2022 Barbasol Championship, birding on the 18th hole to finish 25-under par.
The 30-year-old headed into the final round with a three-day total of 19-under par 297 and he outsmarted then-tournament leader and teammate Kevin Streelman by one stroke for the title.
Mullinax fired a course-record 62 during the third round of the 2018 Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio, to position himself one shot back going into the final round.
The former University of Alabama student finished as joint runner-up, after a final round 69, to record his best PGA Tour finish to date.
Mullinax, who is ranked 116th in the Official World Golf Rankings, took part in the recent 2022 Open Championship where he finished 21st and he has been inactive since then.
“I stayed focused for 72 holes. I missed a couple of opportunities with the putter and just told myself to keep putting, been putting great," Mullinax said after winning the Barbasol Championship.
“Been hitting my irons beautifully all week, probably the strongest part of my game. I knew I was going to have that shot a couple of times, and I hit a great shot at the right time.”
“What an incredible honour to be able to go over there and play. What a dream come true to be able to go to St Andrews on the 150th," he continued.
“I've got a lot of logistics to take care of here in just a little bit, but man, super excited and ready to go over there and try to figure out that golf course.”
