The 2023/2024
MTN Super League season concluded on Saturday, June 1st, with the final matches played. Red Arrows had already been crowned champions, and Trident FC, Prison Leopards, and Kansanshi Dynamos were confirmed as relegated teams. The remaining question was which team would join them in relegation, with Konkola Blades on the verge of being demoted.
Konkola Blades entered the final week in 15th place with 36 points, sharing the same points as 16th-placed Forest Rangers but trailing on goal difference. The final matchday was crucial in determining which team would join the already relegated trio.
To secure their survival, Konkola Blades needed to win against Prison Leopards and hope for losses from both NAPSA Stars and Forest Rangers. Moreover, they required a significant margin of victory and heavy defeats for either NAPSA Stars or Forest Rangers. A draw for both Forest Rangers and NAPSA Stars would have still relegated Konkola Blades due to their inferior goal difference.
Unfortunately, Forest Rangers defeated Kansanshi Dynamos 4-0 in their final game, and NAPSA Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Power Dynamos. Despite Konkola Blades' 2-1 victory over Prison Leopards, the goal difference ruled them out, resulting in their relegation.
Red Arrows were officially crowned champions at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola after their match against Mutondo Stars, whom they defeated 1-0. This victory marked their second title in the past three years, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in Zambian football.
In a surprising turn of events, Mufulira Wanderers hosted Zesco United at Shinde Stadium and secured a shocking 2-0 victory. Despite Zesco United's status as a top-tier team, Mufulira Wanderers managed to overcome the odds.
As the champions, Red Arrows will represent Zambia in the CAF Champions League, while Zesco United, finishing second, will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
