Lazio will look to get the upper hand against UEFA Champions League title holders Bayern Munich when the teams meet in the first leg of their Last 16 tie, set for the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Tuesday 23 February 2021, kick-off at 22:00.
Lazio earned their place in the knockout rounds by finishing second in Group F behind Bayern’s local rivals Borussia Dortmund. The Italian side went unbeaten through the group, though they only claimed two wins: 3-1 at home to Dortmund in October and 3-1 at home to Zenit Saint Petersburg in November.

Le Aquile have also shown some fine form in Serie A in recent weeks, with attacker Sergej Milinkovic-Savic hoping they can take that momentum into the clash with the reigning continental champions: “We took home what we wanted, and we took advantage of the defeats of the other teams,” he explained. “[Previously] we lacked continuity; now we have it.”
Bayern, unsurprisingly, topped Group A with an unbeaten record, claiming 16 points from a possible 18 from their six matches against Atletico Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow. The only blot on their copybook was a 1-1 draw in the Spanish capital in December.
The German heavyweights are also fresh from winning the FIFA Club World Cup, having beaten Mexico’s Tigres UANL last week to further underline their status as the best club team on the globe.
