2021 French Open – Roland Garros
Qualifying rounds: 24-28 May 2021
Main draw: 30 May-13 June 2021
Stade Roland Garros, Paris, France
Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek will look for a strong defence of her maiden Grand Slam title when she participates in the
French Open at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, with the main draw tournament set to run from Sunday 30 May to Sunday 13 June 2021.
The 19-year-old was a surprise winner in the French capital last year, triumphing over Sofia Kenin in the final. And her strength on clay has been further underlined recently when she won the Italian Open in Rome, demolishing Karolina Pliskova 6-0 6-0 in the championship match.

"I'm surprising myself actually when I'm not doing well because I'm pretty ambitious," said the player from Warsaw, who was little known before her victory at the French Open. "There are many players that regress after winning their first Grand Slam. I always though try to be different. I'm a perfectionist."

The tournament win in Rome saw Swiatek enter the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time, with the Pole crediting her team for improvement in her game: "I had good people around me, telling me not to really worry, and that sometimes it's the best idea not to care.
"Everybody can play great forehands and backhands and be physically well, but the champion is going to be the one that is stronger mentally. I think mentally I was really in good shape today."

Swiatek’s main threat to her hopes of a title defence will come from Australian Ashleigh Barty, though the top ranked player exited the Italian Open due to an arm injury and comes into the French Open under something of a cloud.
Other players to watch in the Women’s Singles tournament are Naomi Osaka, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina and Serena Williams, who will continue her quest to finally equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
