Nicknamed Meddy Bear, Medvedev is looking to become the first Russian to win the Vienna Open singles' title.

The Moscow-born player achieved a breakthrough in 2019, when he reached six consecutive tournament finals.

This included one at the 2019 US Open and three at Masters 1000 events.

At the 2020 US Open, Medvedev beat Federico Delbonis, Christopher O'Connell, J.J Wolf, and Frances Tiafoe all without dropping a set to reach the quarter-finals.

The Monaco-based player then beat Andrey Rublev in straight sets in the last eight and in the semi-finals, he was defeated by Dominic Thiem in three straight sets.

Medvedev lost to Marton Fucsovics in four sets in the first round, succumbing to a sliced game from his opponent at the recent 2020 French Open.

Meddy Bear recently explained that he plays every tournament to win it and he will be among the favourites at the Vienna Open.

“I always take it match by match. Of course, in the back of my mind, any Slam I play, any tournament I play, I want to win it," Medvedev said.

"I have not won any Slams yet. I just have one final. Of course, when I come into a Slam, my goal is to win seven matches. But I take it match by match.”
