The Indiana Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers will renew their rivalry in a 2021-22 NBA Pre-Season clash, set for the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on the morning of Saturday 16 October 2021. Tip-off is at 01:00.
The Pacers have had mixed results in Pre-Season thus far, but they are hopeful of a strong campaign in the 2021-22 season. One of the main reasons for their optimism is rookie Isaiah Jackson, who has already caught the eye with his abilities after being drafted earlier this year.

“His [Jackson] defensive versatility is absolutely breathtaking,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “I just have not seen a guy move, block shots, change shots, be able to guard any position the way I’ve seen him be able to do it.”
“I don’t know if we’ve had that kind of a talented athlete in the building since probably Paul George,” president Kevin Pritchard added. “I’m not trying to compare him to Paul George right now, but as a pure athlete, he does some things that I’ve not seen in the gym in a long time.”
The Cavaliers, meanwhile, will be looking to avenge a 109-100 Pre-Season loss to the Pacers from last weekend. Cleveland are also banking on a new youngster to add a new dimension to their team, in the shape of Finnish centre Lauri Markkanen.

“Lauri Markkanen is a tremendous fit,” general manager Koby Altman said during the scrimmage broadcast. “If you told me two years ago that we’d have a chance to acquire him, you would be crazy. He’s so talented. He’s so skilled. He complements what we want to do.”
In head-to-head stats, the Pacers and the Cavaliers have met in 214 Regular Season and Playoff games since 1976-77, with Indiana claiming 111 wins compared to 103 for Cleveland. The teams’ last meeting was in May 2021, with the Pacers racking up a fifth straight win over the Cavs thanks to a 111-102 away triumph.
