Red Arrows Football Club’s campaign in the
CAF Champions League has ended after a 2-1 defeat to TP Mazembe in the second leg of the second round in Lubumbashi on Saturday.
In the first leg Arrows hosted TP Mazembe at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium and it ended 0-2 in Favor of Mazembe.Despite Red Arrows efforts across both legs, they were unable to secure the aggregate win, bowing out of the competition on 4-1 aggregate.
Red Arrows lacked tactical discipline in front of goal, and occasional defensive lapses were their biggest downfall. However, they still showcased good football.
The past three years Arrows have been qualifying for CAF competition and they have failed to make it through to the group stage on all attempts.
The Airmen’s head coach Chisi Mbewe expressed disappointment with the results stating that despite the team playing well in open play they couldn’t score a lot of goals.
‘’We were a better side in both legs especially during the home game but yet we couldn’t score a lot of goals which is what we need to work on. Our tactical execution and defensive organize needs to be worked on, we need to improve.’’ he said
They will now shift their focus to the local league, where they are the reigning champions. Betway is the official betting partner of the MTN Super League. Arrows have several games in hand as the league is currently in Week 5.
On Sunday, 29th September, Arrows will face Muntodo Stars away at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, in a Week 6 fixture of the MTN Super League.
