Sunday, 27 October 2024
Max Verstappen will be hoping to continue his dominance at the
Mexican Grand Prix by winning the race for a record-extending sixth time.
Most recent race
The Red Bull Racing driver secured a podium spot at the United States Grand Prix on 20 October, the most recent race in the 2024 Formula One World Championship season.
Verstappen started on the second grid and went on to finish third, and also won the sprint classification which saw him collecting 23 points from the event.
Formula One title ambitions
The former Scuderia Toro Rosso driver remains at the top of the World Drivers' Championship standings having collected 354 points.
Verstappen is now 57 points ahead of second-placed Lando Norris of McLaren and all eyes will be on the two drivers at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Why Verstappen could win the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix
The 2013 KZ World Championship winner has been unstoppable in the Mexican Grand Prix having won the race a record five times (2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023)
Verstappen will be out to make it four successive wins at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez and move closer to successfully defending his Formula One world title.
What did he say?
“It was a difficult race for me. I didn’t have the pace to attack, so it was different to yesterday," Verstappen said after the 2024 United States Grand Prix.
"I struggled with a lot of understeer and was fighting the brakes. It made defending harder. Every time someone attacked me, it was hard to brake late.”
“It was really difficult for me to brake late because the car just wouldn’t turn. It was easy to lock up and difficult to get a straight exit. We were able to keep him (Norris) behind, but eventually he got past," he added.
"Because he overtook me outside the track, he got a penalty, which worked out well for us. It was a tough fight with Lando, but to hold on to a podium is a good result for us.”
