After clinching the Japanese Grand Prix crown last week, defending champion Francesco Bagnaia will once again look to cut into Jorge Martin’s lead on the standings at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend.
While Pedro Acosta started at pole position in Japan, Bagnaia pounced on the Red Bull GasGas rider in the first lap before maintaining his lead for the rest of the race.
In the end, Bagnaia finished 1.189 seconds ahead of Martin in second place, while Marc Marquez completed the race in 3rd spot.

Bagnaia, who recorded his 8th win of the season, moved within 10 points of Martin at the summit of the 2024 standings.
Reflecting on the upcoming race, Bagnaia expressed that he will head into the next showpiece with the same ambition as he looks to challenge for the 2024 title.

“Jorge today was much stronger, so I was just trying to manage the gap,” Bagnaia said after the race.
"We have to move on to the next one with the same ambition, the same strategy and try to continue like this.”
