Argentine striker, Sergio Aguero may not have the star power of Sadio Mane, Harry Kane or Pierre Emerick Aubameyang – but he is sizzling hot when it comes to setting and smashing records.
The 31-year-old bagged an unassailable 12
th Premier League hat-trick against Aston Villa this week to go one ahead of Alan Shearer – three clear of Robbie Fowler and four adrift of Michael Owen and Thierry Henry.
A Goal-Scoring Machine for Club and Country
Aguero is no stranger to netting goals. In fact, he is a goal-scoring machine for his club, his country and in all competitions. With a grand total of 249 goals Sergio Aguero is Manchester City’s top all-time goalscorer.
His tally of 177 Premier League strikes is the fourth highest in the history of the league. Only Andy Cole, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer are ahead of him. On current form it can only be a matter of time before he leapfrogs to an even higher position on the league’s all-time goalscorer list.
Youngest Ever Primera League Debutant
Quick, strong and agile, Aguero set the tone for his record-breaking capabilities when he became the youngest player ever to make his debut in the Argentine Primera League. He played his first match at the Estadio Libertadores de America at just 15 years of age – younger than that of the great Diego Maradona on his debut.
At his first club Independente, he scored 23 goals in 54 appearances. Over a five-year spell in the La Liga with Atletico Madrid, the man known as Kun hit the back of the net 101 times in 234 outings.
As the central cog around which the team revolved, Aguero was key to Los Rojiblancos winning the UEFA Europa League and the Super Cup.
Came of Age at Manchester City
Although these statistics are super impressive, Sergio Aguero began to flourish under first Roberto Mancini, and most recently, Pep Guardiola.
Along with achieving the highest number of hat-tricks in the English Premier League, Aguero has scored five goals in a single match – the most in the history of the league. It took just 23 minutes and 34 seconds into the match – the fastest time ever – for him to achieve this remarkable feat!
It is not only in the EPL that Aguero dazzles. He holds the club record for the most goals in the UEFA Champions League (37) and the highest tally in all competitions in Europe (47).

Watch Out Cole and Rooney: Here Comes Sergio Aguero!
The question now is; can the affable Argentinian catch Andy Cole and Wayne Rooney, men who have scored 187 and 208 Premier League goals respectively?
Rumour has it that Aguero is planning to leave Manchester City when his contract ends next season. He is reputedly heading back to Independente, the club where it all started.
If that is the case the super-striker has 54 league matches in which to score 10, 31 - or in the case of Alan Shearer, the current record holder with 260 goals - 83 times to take top spot on the log. If Sergio Aguero continues scoring his trademark trebles… anything is possible!
It's the Aguero and Guardiola Show
Why does Aguero operate at the highest level under the tutelage of master tactician Pep Guardiola?
According to the striker himself, it is Manchester City’s style of play under Pep that is at the heart of his success in the box. To Aguero it is all about the other players creating the chances he needs to score... and score he most certainly does!
