Stefano Pioli, the Milan manager, insisted that the discussion of the European Super League did not affect his side despite a 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo on Wednesday.

"It did not affect us. We did not let ourselves be distracted by anything. We are focused on our goal," Pioli said.

"These are things that we have not decided and we have not talked about. I don't think anyone could have had any doubts about Paolo [Maldini]'s moral integrity.

"He has many values, he expressed himself for what he feels. If he said those things, it means that he has these feelings."
