2019/20 German Bundesliga

57th Season

Matches Played: 306
Goals Scored: 982

Bayern Leverkusen starlets Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz both excelled in the Bundesliga during the 2019/20 season.

Havert, who is an attacking midfielder, became the youngest player to make 100 Bundesliga appearances, doing so against FC Cologne in the Rhine Derby on 14 December 2019.

The Alemannia Aachen academy product played the entire match at the age of 20 years and 186 days.

The record was previously held by his Germany teammate Timo Werner, who recently left RB Leipzig for English giants Chelsea.

A technically gifted and two-footed midfielder, Havertz also became the first player under the age of 21 to score 35 Bundesliga goals when he netted in the 1-0 win over Freiburg on 29 May 2020.

Havertz was the youngest to reach 30 goals on Matchday 25 of the league before Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho topped him four games later.

The immensely talented playmaker has been described as the best player in Bayer Leverkusen's history by managing director Rudi Völler.

"We've had many good players through the history of the club at Bayer Leverkusen, but Kai Havertz is the best of them all," Völler said.

Havertz's Leverkusen teammate Wirtz had a memorable campaign in the Bundesliga as he broke two records in his debut campaign in the Greman top-flight league.

Witz, who is also an attacking midfielder by trade, became the youngest Leverkusen player in competition when he made his debut against Werder Bremen on 18 May 2020.

The FC Cologne academy product succeeded Havertz when he started in the impressive 4-1 win over Bremen at 17 years and 15 days.

This made Wirtz the third-youngest in league history behind FC Cologne starlet Yann Aurel Bisseck (16 years, 11 months and 28 days) and former Borussia Dortmund star Nuri Sahin (16 years, 11 months and one day).

The Germany youth international then became the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga history at the age of 17 years and 34 days on 06 June 2020.

Wirtz netted a late consolation goal against the German champions Bayern Munich, who emerged 4-2 winners on the day.
