Ducati Lenovo Team's Enea Bastianini is hoping to keep pace with the MotoGP Championship frontrunners in the Aragon Grand Prix on Sunday, September 1 after suffering at the Red Bull Ring.

The Italian claimed his first victory of the season in the British Grand Prix on August 4, but was well off the pace in the Austrian Grand Prix a fortnight later as he finished 7.357 seconds behind race winner Francesco Bagnaia.

Bastianini still occupies third place in the rider's standings, although he is 56 points behind Prima Pramac Racing's Jorge Martin and a further five adrift of two-time reigning world champion Bagnaia.

The 26-year-old rider admitted his confidence took a knock after failing to match the pace of the front two in Spielberg and hopes his situation will improve in Alcaniz.

"I'm sorry because I suffered a lot this weekend, maybe today we improved something because yesterday I couldn't keep this pace, but I missed something compared to the first two," Bastianini told Sky Sports.

"As for the weekend, everything is fine. My problem was not forcing the entries, the hard tyre on the left was not at temperature and already on Friday I was in danger of falling, that's why I didn't want to use it. I couldn't use the front of my bike like I usually do. And if it doesn't work, then you're lost along the way.

"The team did absolutely everything to give me the best bike. But to be honest, I didn't stand a chance against the other two. My confidence suffered towards the end. And since it had long been clear that there was nothing I could do, I avoided any further risk."

2024 Austrian Grand Prix results:

Winner: Francesco Bagnaia - Ducati Lenovo Team

Second Place: Jorge Martin - Prima Pramac Racing

Third Place: Enea Bastianini - Ducati Lenovo Team
