2023/24 English Premier League
Matchday 19
Burnley v Liverpool
Turf Moor
Burnley, England
Tuesday, 26 December 2023
Kick-off is at 19h30
Premier League title hopefuls Liverpool will target a return to winning ways when they face a buoyant Burnley at Turf Moor on Tuesday, December 26.
The Reds came from behind to draw 1-1 with league leaders Arsenal at Anfield on December 23, which maintained the one-point gap between the top two.
Jurgen Klopp's side have registered back-to-back draws, although they remain unbeaten in their last 11 matches to stay in touch with the Gunners.
Aston Villa (3rd) are tied with the Merseysiders on 39 points, having missed out on the chance to climb to the league summit after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sheffield United at Villa Park on December 22.
Tottenham returned to the top four courtesy of a 2-1 win over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on December 23 as they went two points clear of Manchester City (5th).
The Clarets recorded a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage to arrest a three-match winless run and close within three points of safety in 19th place.
The Blades continue to be rooted to the foot of the table on nine points, while Luton (18th) claimed a surprise 1-0 triumph against Newcastle at Kenilworth Road to move within two points of Nottingham Forest (17th).
Wilson Odobert will be full of confidence after scoring two goals in his last three games. The French winger was on target against the Cottagers when he curled the ball into the top right corner of the net from 20 yards out after playing a neat one-two with Lyle Foster to take his tally for the season to three goals.
Mohamed Salah was back to his best against Arsenal and constantly tormented Oleksandr Zinchenko on the right flank, having ghosted past the Ukrainian to score a cracking equaliser. The Egyptian winger has now bagged 12 goals in 18 appearances to move up to second in the scoring charts behind Erling Haaland (14).

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is delighted to finally get rewarded for another good performance, which saw his players show fight in every aspect of the game against Fulham.
"We were able to remain dangerous in most phases of play whether we had the ball, whether we were defending, whether it was the little bits in between, second balls, loose balls, mainly that, especially in the second half," Kompany said.
"It helped us give us a performance that gave us a chance. But I've said it quite a few times, we've had quite a lot of good performances now but it's the results that obviously gives you the reward."
Klopp anticipates a tricky trip to Turf Moor and acknowledges the quality that the Clarets possess under Kompany, insisting the club wouldn't be struggling at the wrong end of the table if they'd taken their numerous chances.
"I don't need the Fulham result to understand Burnley's quality," the German said. "I think Burnley could have easily had much more points because they had so many good spells in the games where they then don't finish these situations off.
"Young players in some positions. In the moment they finish these situations off, they can win football games, definitely. It was very often that they were really good in the game and I respect Vinny [Kompany] a lot for [the fact that] he keeps pushing his idea through."
