Matchday 21

Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Etihad Stadium
Manchester, England

Manchester City will be looking to put last weekend's disappointment behind them when Wolves visit the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, January 22.

The Citizens slipped further behind Premier League leaders Arsenal in the title race after going down 2-1 to neighbours Manchester United at Old Trafford last Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side have now drawn three and lost three of their opening 18 league games and trail the Gunners by eight points in second place, with Newcastle and United breathing down their necks.

Guardiola felt City were lacking in attack against the Red Devils, with Erling Haaland struggling to make an impact, but he was happy with the effort his players put in overall.

"We missed a little bit up front in quality, sometimes that happens, that's not a problem... but today was completely different to Southampton and we congratulate United for the victory," the Spaniard said.

"We are not going to win [the league] every year for the next 25 years. We want to try but I want us to behave in this way. We were close but not close enough, missed a bit up front but in general with the performance I'm satisfied."

Wanderers have made a promising start under Julen Lopetegui, who secured the second win of his tenure at home to West Ham last Saturday.

Daniel Podence's 48th-minute goal clinched a 1-0 victory against the Hammers to take the Black Country outfit two points clear of the relegation zone in 16th spot.

Lopetegui has now picked up seven points from his first four games at the helm and was pleased that the performance delivered a positive result on this occasion.

"I think in the last matches [against Manchester United and Aston Villa] we deserved better scores, so today it was important we got three points," the Spaniard said.

"They were three important points, but in the end only three points. We have not done anything at the moment, we have to continue. I liked the personality of the players."
