Cycling has seen one of the biggest expansions since being contested at the first modern Olympics in 1896 and there are five disciplines at
Paris 2024, running from Saturday, July 27 to Sunday, August 11.
One road race and five track events were featured in Athens 128 years ago and that grown to 22 in 2024, with mountain biking, BMX racing and BMX freestyle added to the itinerary since 1996.
Great Britain have dominated the sport in the last four editions of the Games and lead the overall medal table (78) ahead of France (68) and Italy (40).
Ecuador's Richard Carapaz won the men's road race at Tokyo 2020, with 2024 Tour de France victor Tadej Pogacar (Slovenia) claiming the bronze medal and compatriot Primoz Roglic winning the men's time trial.
Great Britain shone in the track events as Jason Kenny and Matthew Walls scooped gold in the men's Keirin and Omnium disciplines respectively, while Katie Archibald and Laura Kenny triumphed in the women's Madison event.
There were further gold medals for Tom Pidcock in the men's mountain biking as well as Beth Shriever and Charlotte Worthington in the women's BXM.
Kenny has since retired and is now coaching Jack Carlin, who came second in the sprint and third in the team sprint on his Olympics debut in 2020.
Carlin is hoping that having the vastly-experienced seven-time Olympic gold-medalist in his corner will help him to get the better of defending champion Harrie Lavreysen.
"I've learned more from watching him during the Olympics than actually now as a coach probably," the Scot told BBC Sport.
"I think he might come into his own at the Olympics. He's been through it four times. So he knows what he's doing.
"We worked really well on race day, we bounced ideas off each other, how we're going to tactically race and that's something we really gel on and we agree with.
"I've never had the rider-coach relationship when they have been my team-mate previously. So it has been different. But we're working well together and we have both got our eyes set on what we want to achieve in Paris."
