Group D

Netherlands v Austria

Olympiastadion

Berlin, Germany

Kick-off is at 18h00

Netherlands will attempt to secure top spot in Group D when they take on Austria at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Tuesday, June 25.

The Oranje currently lead the way in the group on goals scored ahead of France, with both teams having picked up four points from their opening two matches.

Ronald Koeman's side came from behind to beat Poland 2-1 in Hamburg first up on June 16 before playing out to a goalless draw with Les Bleus in Leipzig five days later.

The major talking point from the stalemate with the French saw VAR disallow a goal for Xavi Simons in the second half after Denzel Dumfries was adjudged to have impeded the goalkeeper.

Koeman agreed that Dumfries had been in an offside position, but felt the match officials made a mistake as the Dutch right-back was not interfering with play.

"The position of Dumfries is offside, that's true. But he isn't disturbing the goalkeeper, and when that does not happen then it's a legal goal in my opinion," he said.

"Did they need five minutes to check it because it's so difficult? I don't understand this. He's not disturbing the goalkeeper.

"Although I think that the goal should have stood, my takeaway from this is it is a fair result. I can accept this, although there were times during the game where we weren't up to scratch."

The Burschen have looked solid in Germany thus far, getting their campaign up and running with a 3-1 win over Poland on June 21 after losing to France via a solitary own-goal from Maximilian Wober four days earlier.

Ralf Rangnick's side are ranked as the top pressers at the tournament with 8.7 opposition passes allowed per defensive action (PPDA) and the Austrian tactician admitted their performance improved markedly in the second half after being below par in the opening 45 minutes.

"If I'm really honest, we begged to concede this goal," Rangnick said. "After the 20th minute in the first half we dropped down in our performance level.

"We had a few players who underperformed in the first half compared to their normal level. We don't have an extraordinary squad that allows four or five players to be below par, but in the second half that changed completely."
