Netherlands v Gibraltar
European 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, Group G
Monday 11 October 2021
De Kuip Stadium, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Kick-off at 20:45
The Netherlands will chase three key points in their quest to secure direct qualification for the 2022 World Cup when they host minnows and Group G rivals Gibraltar at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam on the evening of Monday 11 October 2021. Kick-off is at 20:45.
The Netherlands head into this block of WCQ matches at the top of Group G, having claimed 13 points from six matches, though they only lead Norway on goal difference, and Turkey are just two points back. Gibraltar, meanwhile, are bottom of the log with zero points after losing all six outings.

De Oranje will first be in action on Friday 8 October with a match away to Latvia in Riga. Manager Louis van Gaal will be hoping his team can continue the form they showed in September when they racked up 10 goals by defeating Montenegro 4-0 and Turkey 6-1.
“We can think that this Dutch team is among the top in the world, but it is not. We also have to function as a team,” said van Gaal, who adds that he will be open to playing in different formations: “I already showed that in 2014. Possession of the ball is not sacred. It’s about whether you have the players to turn that possession into something positive,” said Van Gaal. “I trained for six weeks for the World Cup in Brazil... 5-3-2 is also the best system in my opinion. But I can’t do that in two days.”

Gibraltar’s results in September saw them beaten 3-1 in Latvia, 3-0 at home by Turkey and 5-1 away to Norway. Team 54 have failed to win any of their 11 last matches across all competitions and friendlies.
In head-to-head stats, Netherlands and Gibraltar have met in just one previous match, which was the reverse fixture in this Group G, played at the Victoria Stadium in Gibraltar in March 2021. De Oranje were 7-0 winners, thanks to goals from Steven Berghuis, Luuk de Jong, Memphis Depay (two), Gini Wijnaldum, Donyell Malen and Donny van de Beek.
